FashionMist: African Fashion coming out of the Mist 2011 Event, London

FashionMist is bringing together various designers who are of African (specifically Ghanaian) origin and reflect this in their work and who have found success in the Diaspora as well as on the continent itself.

The event aims to highlight that African-influenced designs can be enjoyed in any number of contexts, western or non-western. In doing so, the event is creating a network of designers who can draw on each other for support and inspiration. Designers who are confirmed to participate include Sheila Boateng (N’kya Designs), Sandi Owusu (Diva Delicious), Mina Evans-Anfom (Mina Evans), Anita Quansah (Anita Quansah London) and Helena Aidoo-Morrison (Aya Morrison) Kwabena Boateng (Kayobi) Antoinette Amuzu (Ayikai Couture) Josephine Wiafeh (Yaa Ataa couture bags). Hazel Mak and Adynkra will provide entertainment.

FashionMist will take place in two parts. During the day there will be an exhibition of 20 stalls, where the clothing and accessory ranges of participating designers will be available for purchase by the public. This part of the event is open to anybody and admission will be free. During the evening, FashionMist will host a ticketed fashion showcase, where a selection of designers will present exclusive collections. Part of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to Global Mamas, an organization which aims at empowering women through art and crafts.

The event will take place on Saturday 26th March 2011. The Exhibition will be open to the public from 12pm – 5pm and admission is free. Doors for the Showcase will open at 6pm and this is a ticket-only event. Tickets cost £15 and can be purchased Here. The event will take place at the Hotel Russell 1-8 Russell Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1B 5BE. The exhibition during the day is free and open to the public.

Wana Sambo 'Light as Air' Fall/Winter 2011 Collection at Project Red Charity Fashion Show

The new collection aptly titled ‘Light as Air’ by designer Wana Sambo for her eponymous label was a combination of free flowing sultry fabrics if loose shapes and silhouettes. The pieces were inspired by France and this was evidenced by French singer -of Belgian and Rwandan origin- Stromae’s Alors on Danse track blazing through the speakers as the models navigated the runway.

The designer took a bold step away from the ubiquitous Ankara fabric, opting to employ it only for handmade woven hand bands whilst tulle fabric in different colors was used for the entire collection.

LPM - More Edition

“We hope the year has taken off to a great start, we know it has for us!! LPM is turning 2 years old on Sunday, 27th of February 2011, and we are proud and grateful for the immense support from everyone!!

To celebrate our 2nd anniversary, we are giving you the opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of hundreds of Nigerians alongside Freedom Foundation; an NGO, which was set up in 2001 to carry out the mandate of pioneering social reformation within communities. It was established as a non-profit organization committed to affecting society by empowering individuals who are affected by various categories of social and economic disadvantage (drug addicts & sex workers for example).

The individuals Freedom Foundation rescues are vulnerable. Some were sold by their own parents as barter for debts, and from ages as young as 13, they have been drugged up to work the streets of Lagos, serving as objects to enrich other men – men who bully and threaten their lives, e-ver-y-day.

With many reasons to give thanks, we’ve decided to partner with this great organization to raise funds for the Ladies who reside in Genesis House, where they are fully re-habilitated and nurtured to become better/stronger women with strong values in their community. With this in mind we were wondering what MORE can we GIVE? We thought hard about this, and came up to the an equation that ends up as the BIGGEST Fashion Market Party Lagos is yet to see:

MORE Space + MORE Vendors = MORE Merrier People.

Seeing as it is a Celebration we will have a Food Court, selling a variety of food, drink and confectionary, a lounge area where documentaries of the great work being done by the freedom foundation will be displayed, and even a DJ!

We trust and thank you in advance for being a part of this positive and impactful initiative as we all get to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of Women, who are simply victims of society. We hope you join Le Petit Marche (LPM) to GIVE a large percentage of the proceeds raised from the rental of stalls and donate to the good work of the freedom foundation! So please, help make a difference!

We will be taking stall reservations at info@lpmnigeria.com for a large variety of vendors including:

-     Fashion designers
-     Fabric
-     Men and women High street fashion
-     Shoes and bags
-     Accessories
-     Food and drink
-     Home Essentials and more

Venue:

All the Fashions and People at the Luxé Store Launch and Valentine Sales Event

The newest store to launch on fashion high street Adeniran Ogunsanya is none other than Luxé run by Eve and Liyah is a modern women and menswear boutique stocking leather goods and shirts for men from some of the most luxurious brands which include Gucci, Prada, Giorgio Armani, D&G , Valentino, Dior…and more.

The event was fun filled with loads of designer label loving whores gents and ladies trooping in and out to take advantage of the 10% mark down on all merchandise.

Honestly I was impressed with the selection of items in store, the store design and the sick sick dance playlist that was on rotation almost turning the store into a mini discotheque after a few drinks and delicious cupcakes.
The difference is obviously clear when it comes to details on high end shirts
